Early Announcement Sought
(New Zealana Press Association)
TIMARU, Dec. 9. It was highly desirable that the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Holloway) should announce soon the storage payments the Government proposed for this season’s wheat, said a resolution passed at a meeting of interested bodies in Timaru today. It was convened at the request of the general manager of the Wheat Committee (Mr L. Dunshea). The meeting, representative of Federated Farmers, South Canterbury merchants, the Transport Alliance, flour millers and the Railways Department, agreed that millers, particularly, were entitled to know goon what the storage payment for wheat would be as they would have to buy a year’s requirements in two months.
Formerly they could buy Australian wheat about every two months, but this season an increased wheat acreage in this country could make Mew Zealand self-supporting.
