DEFENCE OF NEPAL

Indian Plans Criticised

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) KATMANDU (Nepal), Dec. 4. Mr Nehru was accused yesterday of trying to drag Nepal into India’s border dispute with China by saying that any aggression on Nepal would be considered aggression on India. The attack came from the former Premier of Nepal, Tanka Prasad, who is now president of an Opposition alliance. He claimed that Mr Nehru's statement was an “attempt to find an excuse not to recognise the independent existence of Nepal. ’ He also attacked the present Premier of Nepal, Mr B. P. Koirala, for his statement that Nepal had a long-standing border dispute with Chinese-ruled Tibet. “This is a downright falsehood,” he said. ‘‘Nepal’s frontier has been defined for years and remains only to be formally confirmed by China. Ido not think China will hesitate to do so.”
