Marlborough Beats Motueka

(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, December 6.

The Marlborough cricket team successfully withstood the first Newman Shield challenge of the season when it beat Motueka by nine wickets yesterday on the second day of a scheduled three-day match at Blenheim. With a lead of 32 runs on the first innings, Marlborough dismissed Motueka for 152 (G. Bartlett four for 32. M. Wilson four for 26).

Marlborough then hit up the required 120 runs for victory for the loss of one wicket (R. Young 54 not out, J. Barnett 39 not out).
