Wanganui beat Taranaki by 237 runs on the first innings in the Smith shield representative cricket match, played at Cook’s Gardens yesterday and today. Scores were:—
Wanganui 436 (T. L. A. Stent 112, R. D. Baron 71, R. E. Brown 45, M. D. Bell 45. J. W. Vernon 43, B. D. Upston 33, J. F. Jones 33; J. Whitelock three for 92. D. Kinsella three for 96, C. Bloor two for 68, T. O’Byrne one for 74) beat Taranaki 199 (T. Dravitski 68, E. M. Meuli 31, M? Skipper 20; W. T. Charlton five for 50, J. F. Jones four for 37, N. C. F. Corballis one for 31) and 155 for one (Dravitski 68 not out, Skipper 42 not out, Meuli 38) on the first innings
