RACING Yahabeebe’s Brilliant Run In Franklin Plate

"Th* Press* Special Service

AUCKLAND, December 6.

Showing speed far beyond any of her eight opponents, Yahabeebe scored another grand sprinting win in the Franklin Plate, weight-for-age, at the Franklin Racing Club’s meeting at Pukekohe yesterday. It was a most notable addition to a wonderful series of brilliant gallops in the last three or four years.

This time the course was seven furlongs and Yahabeebe ran it in Imin 22 3-ssec, which is only a fifth of a second outside the New Zealand record she put up at Ellerslie last autumn. She was timed to cover the first two furlongs in 23 l-ssec and the first three in 34 3-ssec. By that time the others, headed by Supreme Court, came seven or eight lengths behind. In the finish Yahabeebe slackened speed but the others were also slowing and Royal Crescent, the best of them, came a length behind. Red Eagle ran third almost in line with Royal Crescent, and Stylish Officer was fourth. Thirteenth Win A six-year-old mare by Midday Sun from Grilse, Yahabeebe is raced by Mr L. J. Fisher and trained by M. E. Ritchie at Ellerslie. The £525 for first on this latest occasion brought her earnings in the Dominion to £16,375, the result of 13 firsts and six minor placings from 22 starts. She has also been a winner in Australia. When she won last season Yahabeebe was ridden by W. A. Smith or J. W. Harris. This time she was handled cooly and most competently by the Ellerslie apprentice, W. T. Day, who is enjoying considerable success these days. As well as being on Yahabeebe on Saturday he won the Cup Trial on Aircraft. Outpaced Quickly

Fair Filou and True Bridge were outpaced quickly in the Franklin Plate and Yahabeebe streaked away to a big lead. After little more than a furlong she was out by five lengths from Red Eagle, Supreme Court and Somain. Three lengths further back were Stylish Officer, Goldmyth and Royal Crescent. True Bridge and Fair Filou fell a length or two further behind. Going with great dash Yahabeebe went further ahead by a length or two passing the halfmile. Supreme Court began to draw clear of Red Eagle, which in turn led Stylish Officer. Somain and Royal Crescent. In the next furlong Supreme Court made ground for a bit and as they began the run home he ran Yahabeebe to two lengths. Red Eagle, Stylish Officer and Royal Crescent were battling hard. For a few strides it seemed that Yahabeebe must yield, but the others were about done with and the pacemaker continued her brilliant gallop to win by a length. Royal Crescent ran gamely into second a nose in front of Red Eagle. Stylish Officer was fourth, two lengths ahead of Supreme Court. There was a further gap to Goldmyth, Somain, True Bridge and Fair Filou.
