Gilroy Retains Empire Title

Bernie Taylor, the South African bantamweight champion, proved no match for Freddie Gilroy (Belfast) the British and Empire and European champion, and was knocked out in the fifth round of their Empire title fight tonight. From the opening bell, it was Gilroy all the way. In fact, it was surprising that Taylor stood up as long as he did to the Belfast boxer's pounding. Taylor had no answer to the fast combination of body punches thrown by the aggressive little Belfast man who. caring little for defence, sailed constantly into his opponent.

Shaking off Taylor’s pawing arms, Gilroy waltzed in with a succession of blows from all angles which made the South African wilt
