Westland National Park
Sir—As taxpayers, the residents of the West Coast will want value for money spent, now and in the future. Money should be used to the utmost in improving tracks where people actually go, such as to the Fox Glacier, which is difficult to get on to owing to receding ice, but which could be improved for tourists to see. Before a mistake is made, as has happened elsewhere, the parks board should think out the necessities of this area. For a start, two rangers’ accommodation for married men will, at today’s costs, be £3OOO each or more, depending on the design. The position calls for a working man, not for a castle-dweller; and for two or three years single men would, with the necessary knowledge of the work involved, be most suitable.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED ONLOOKER.
