Burma Revolt Suppressed

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LASHIO (Burma), Dec. 5

The Burmese Army has suppressed a rebellion which began two weeks ago in the Northern Shan State, Army sources said today. All the towns and villages occupied by the rebels in the Salween River area had been retaken by Burmese troops.

A local tribesman, sought by the Army for complicity in opium smuggling, and a commander of armed police stationed in the area, had recruited support from other tribesmen for the rising, by promising them loot from the villages and towns.

The head of the Shan State was now launching a pacification campaign in conjunction with the military forces.
