SANTA CLAUS ATTACKED
“Fraud And Heathen”
(Rec, 9.30 p.m.) PORT ELIZABETH,
(South Africa), December 5 A clergyman whose church frowns on Santa Claus yesterday announced he had started a compaign to rid the world of the traditional Christmas figure, according to American Associated Press.
The Rev. J. A. J. Van Vuuren. Port Elizabeth parson of the Dutch Reformed Church to which most white South Africans belong, denounced Father Christmas as “a fraud and a heathen creation.”
Mr Van Vuuren said Christmas was no longer a feast of Christ by a “feast of debauchery, merry making, and dance parties.”
