TASMAN FLIGHT BY ELECTRA
Ceremony Today At Whenuapai (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 30. The Tasman Empire Airways Electra Aotearoa will be christened with champagne at Whenuapai tomorrow morning immediately before its inaugural flight to Sydney by Mrs J. Mathison, wife of the Minister of Civil Aviation. In a 25-minute ceremony Mr Mathison, the chairman of directory of T.E.A.L. (Sir Leonard lisitt) and the Mayor of Auckland (Mr K. N. Buttle) will speak.
Lockheed’s sales director for Australia and New Zealand. (Mr J. E. Boyce) will present an oil painting of an Electra to Sir Leonard Isitt, and the PostmasterGeneral (Mr Moohan) will hand a mailbag to Captain J. R. McCrane, pilot of the flight.
The Electra will take off at 11 a.m. with Mr and Mrs Mathison, Mr Moohan, Sir Leonard Isitt, T.E.A.L. officials, travel agents, press representatives and other guests. In Sydney Mr Mathison will be challenged by a local Maori party. He will present it with Maori clubs, one of which will also be presented to the Australian Minister of Civil Aviation, Senator Paltridge. The Electra will be back at Whenuapai at 8.30 p.m.
