Cycling HORNBY CLUB’S RACE

H. Sutherland scored a popular win in the Hornby Cycling Club’s 10-mile handicap race on Monday evening. On the Outward run the riders had to contend with a strong head wind, which slowed them up considerably. The limit men were the first to reach the turn. These riders were 40sec ahead of the 2min men, who had improved their position and had picked up 30sec on their handicap. On the return journey the leaders kept up to their work Very well arid, although the 2min men were within 100 yards of them with a little over half a mile to go. the leaders did not let them close the gap. Nearing the line, Sutherland led out stfongly. challenged by A. Shaw, and it appeared as if Shaw, was going to get the decision, but Sutherland had a little in reserve and made a Anal bid, which carried him on to victory. B. Yaxley finished in third place. The excellent riding of the IJmin men was well rewarded with F. Chapman taking time honours. Results were:— H. Sutherland (3Jmin). 25min llsec, 1: A. Shaw (3}min), 23min Usee, 2; B. CHRISTCHURCH AMATEUR CLUB The Christchurch Amateur Cycling Club held two 10-mile graded scratch races at HalsweH, as well as the popular boys* race. Once again the B grade riders returned a better time than the A. grade men. The margin of 13sec was not quite so big as it was last A grade event went to G. Hiil and G.
