FARMING RESEARCH WORKERS

Review Of Salaries Urged

(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON; November 24. *The farming industry should urge a corhplete and immediate review of th 6 salaries of key agricultural research workers, said Mr M. G. Hewitt, at a meeting of the provincial executive of the Waikato Federated Farmers, in Hamilton today... Key research workers should not be restricted to the Public Service scale of salaries, said Mr Hewitt. Mr L F. McKinnon said he agreed something should be done to raise the salaries of the key men. “The margin between brains and brawn in this country is getting to a ridiculous position,” he said. Mr A. E. Symons suggested that one way out of present difficulties would be for the statutory farming organisations to make a contribution. “The Government is always giving bursaries to people in all walks of life, so why couldn’t they do the same for these few key men?” asked Mr F. J. Parsons. The matter will be raised at the Dominion Council meeting in Wellington.
