Revolt Urged In Portugal (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) .Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, November 23. General Humberto Delgado, who went into exile early this year after opposing President Salazar of Portugal in the Presidential election, has arrived in London with the announced object of raising* support for "a rebellion in the Portuguese Army against the Salazar Government. His visit is sponsored by certain groups in Britain aiid, in the opinion of political commentators, seems likely to embarrass the British Government and perhaps cause international complications, Portugal is Britain’s oldest ally and General Delgado’s visit comes at a time when Britain is making every effort to recover export markets she lost in Portugal to Germany. A Foreign Office spokesman said General Delgado's visit was a private one and nothing could be, done to stop it At a London press conference, General Delgado described Portugal as a police State worse than that of Hitler’s Germany. He said he was in Europe to try to create a climate of opinion necessary for the fall of the Salazar dictatorship. He thought an Army revolt was the most probable way in which the regime in Portugal could be overthrown.
