Soviet Emphasis On Engineers

MEXICO CITY, November 22.

The Soviet First Deputy Premier (Mr Anastas Mikoyan) inaugurated the Russian scientific and cultural exhibition in Mexico City yesterday with the boast that his country has now twice as many engineers at work as the United States.

He also told a first-day audience at Mexico’s national auditorium that Soviet universities were graduating 106,000 new engineers a year, whereas the United States schools were graduating only 35,000 engineers a year, or three times less Mr Mikoyan said he mentioned this to show that Russia’s success with Sputniks and cosmic rockets “has not been the result of chance.”
