S.M. DISMISSES CHARGE

Alleged Murder Attempt (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 20. A charge of attempted murder against Norman James Fryer, aged 40, Town Clerk of Gore, was dismissed by Mr G. A. Nicholls, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Gore today. The Magistrate said he thought there was insufficient evidence to warrant sending Fryer for trial. He said he could find no overt act that indicated beyound doubt that Fryer intended to kill Horace Alfred Hull, editor of the “Mataura Ensign,” on October 19. The hearing lasted for more than six and a half hours. There were 12 Crown witnesses. No evidence was called for the defence. Mr J. R. Mills, of Invercargill, appeared for the Crown. Mr A. H. Jeavons. of Dunedin, with him Mr T. M. Brydone, of Gore, appeared for Fryer.
