11 DROWNINGS IN OCTOBER

Fewest Recorded In Month

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19.

One fewer than during October, 1958. the 11 drownings last month were the least number for October since records have been kept, according to the National Water Safety Council.

There was a decrease of only one in the number of deaths among children- under five years of age, two of whom lost their lives in creeks, one in an ornamental pond and the fourth in a sheep trough. However, there were no deaths in the five to 10 age group, in which four lives were lost in October of last year. Rivers, creeks, pools, and ponds were again the chief causes of fatalities, claiming six lives altogether, while boating accidents took another three.
