Lawn Tennis Expenses may be INCREASED

Payments To Amateur Players Pre** Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, November 19. The Australian Lawn Tennis Association last night recommended that amateur players be allowed to receive “generous” expenses for 250 days a year. Today Sydney sports writers said that if this recommendation was accepted by the International Lawn Tennis Federation, it might mean that the Australian Davis Cup star Neale Fraser could earn between £A3500 and £ASOOO by staying an amateur next year. The present expenses rate allowed to amateur tennis players is about £A9 a day. The writers said if this became “generous,” it could reach a much higher figure. Fraser told reporters today it was not definite that he would make a private overseas tour as an amateur next year. Last night the association granted his request to make such a tour. Councillors said they regarded his application as a final and clear indication that Fraser did not intend to turn professional before the next Davis Cup challenge round. Today Fraser said: “The fact that the association has granted me a private tour should not be taken as a final statement that I will make it. “It was suggested to me that if I wanted a private tour, I should apply for one. “This I did. But as far as I am concerned, there is no guarantee that I will make it. Professional Tennis

The amateurism committee of the L.T.A.A. recommended last night that professional tennis be placed under the control of the International Lawn Tennis Federation.

In a report to the L.T.A.A. council meeting, the committee said amateur and professional tennis was the same game and it was important that all tennis be controlled by one body.

The amateurism committee also recommended thatthe question

open tournaments be discussed at the L.TA.A. annual conference in Melbourne on February 3, 1960.
