Australian Cars
Australia was the seventh largest producer of passenger cars in the world in 1958, according to information released by “The American Automobile” in its annual survey of the world car market. It lists 1958 Australian passenger car production at 90,000 vehicles, exceeding Sweden’s production of 76,000 and Japan’s 49,300 units. Austria, one of the world's oldest producers of motor vehicles, made only 17,000 cars in 1958. Passenger Cars Other countries produced, In 1958, 200,000 more cars than the United States, but for the first time in many years, America produced less than half the world’s total production of passenger cars. America, although down more than 2,000,000 units last year due to a recession of the domestic market, still produced 5,119,720 cars. This more than trebled the production of Western Germany, the second largest producer. Western Germany (1,503,600 cars), Great Britain (1,050,000), France (919,200), Italy (363,300) and Canada (292,000) were the only other nations to exceed Australia’s 1958 passenger car production figures.
