Among The FRUIT TREES
The most important job now is the spraying of apple and pear trees to Control codlin mots, using arsenate of lead at a tablespoonful to each gallon of water. Hydrated lime—llb to four gallons of the arsenate mixturewill act as a spreader or adhesive. For codlin moth it is important to apply the poison spray while the fruits are small with the calyx open. Stontf fruit trees should be sprayed with bordeaux to control leaf curl and brown-rust. This latter disease is not apparent, but can, later, ruin the crop. Crops of small fruits are very promising. They can be helped by working into the soil around them a good fertiliser with a blood and bone basis, remembering the need for liberal watering in.
