RECORDS OF SERVICE

Family Ties With The Show The president of the Courtenay Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Mr Graham Gallagher, follows the tradition of family service to the Kirwee district which has characterised local affairs since the area was first taken up. Mr Gallagher, who owns a mixed farm in the district, is the second generation to hold office. His father, Mr David Gallagher, was president in 1925, and took an active part in community organisations through the depression years and World War 11. A brother, Mr J. Gallagher, was president in 1948. The Bedford family have been associated with the show from the early days. Mr George Bedford was one of the original secretaries and was president in 1896. His son, Mr W. C. Bedford, held the office in 1928 and in the third generation both Messrs G. R. and R. H. Bedford have been president. Four generations of the family have exhibited at the show. Five generations of the Jenkins family have exhibited at the show and two, Mr W. J. Jenkins in 1903 and Mr M. E. Jenkins in 1927 have been president of the association. A son of Mr M. E. Jenkins, Mr W. K. Jenkins, is on the committee at present and at the show tomorrow four of Mr M. E. Jenkins’s grandchildren will compete against each other in the pony classes.
