MISSING YOUTHS SAFE
Walked Out Of Bush To Nearby Farm (New Zealana Press Association) MASTERTON, Nov. 17. The two youths who had been missing in the Tararuas since Sunday walked out of the bush this morning. A search party which found their footprints at 8.15 this morning was only a short distance behind them. Both youths were unharmed.
The boys walked to a farm nearby and the farmer telephoned to the search headquarters in Masterron that they were safe.
The four-man party which found their footprints had gone in at 4 a.m. from Carterton.
The youths were Victor Johansen, aged 18, of Naenae, Wellington, and David Kempton, aged 15, of Central terrace, Kelburn, Wellington. They were, with two other youths from Wellington, climbing in the Mount Holdsworth area over the week-end. The weather this morning was changing slowly. Rain squalls and showers were reported from the area, and had the boys been in the bush for much longer it is possible they would have been in serious trouble. By the time they were found to be safe, 49 men had been sent out in field parties. Earlier today 10 search parties were out.
