Bub Services
Sir,—My recollection of the last proposals on the ITorth New Brighton bus service, was asking for a few buses to be taken off the existing service, and, run via Bower avenue, Beach road, and Marine parade, to the existing terminus, returning on the same route, both to give the Beach road area a service to and from Christchurch, and to give the whole area a long-needed internal service. Turning down this request the Transport Board decided on two minor extensions to the existing route. This extra mileage is greater than that of the original request, and the possibility of any increased revenue is much less Someone is going to Considerable expense to make a turnround at the corner of Pacific street and Marine parade. Will the board’s manager give in full his recommendations to the authority? The explanation to “A Mile From the Bus” in no way answers this query.—Yours, etc., P. DASLER, October 23, 1959.
[Mr J. F. Fardell, general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board, said that the board had considered all the many suggestions put to it in connexion with the service to this area; many had been impracticable. The board had been advised that the roads in many parts. of this area were unsuitable for bus operation, and after taking all these matters into account, the board arrived at its decision to extend the North beach route to Marine parade and Pacific street. This had been notified to the North Brighton Ratepayers’ Association.]
