MINOR FIRES
A grass fire on a vacant section owned by Mr D. M. Stanton at 111 Pine avenue, South Brighton, was attended by a unit from the New Brighton station of the Christchurch Fire Brigade at 12.30 p.m. yesterday. There was no damage. At ’2 p.m. tenders from Central and Woolston station spent nearly three hours extinguishing a fire which had spread among lupins, grass and rubbish on land owned by the Christchurch City Council in Ruru road, Bromley. No damage was caused. Bitumen which caught fire at the premises of Road Carpets (New Zealand), Ltd., at McTeigue road, Halswell, at 4.48 p.m. set stfire a small wooden building. The fire was attended by a unit from Central and another from the Sockburn station. A unit from St. Albans was called at 5.37 p.m. to 59 Trafalgar street, occupied by Mr C. Shields, to attend to a shed on fire in the garden. The fire was extinguished with a garden hose and only slight damage was done to the shed.
At 8.5 p.m., a grass fire beside the Waltham road overhead bridge burnt itself out before a unit from the central station arrived.
