EUROPEAN DEFENCE
No Change In U.S. Policy
(Rec. 16 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 17. The United States Secretary of State, Mr Christian Herter, gave an assurance today that the United States would continue to “throw its full support” behind North Atlantic defence needs. Mr Herter, addressing the second day’s session of the 1’.A.T.0. Parliamentarians’ conference, mentioned “speculations in the press that United States concern with its balance of payments is an indication that it might fail to give adequate support to N.A.T.0.” He commented “In answer to this speculation, let me say clearly that the United States will continue to throw its full support to N.A.T.0., as the record- shows we have always done since its inception. “We shall continue to carry our fair share. “That is our policy. There is no change.”
