NOMINATION OF GOVERNOR

M.P.’s Question Menzies CANBERRA, November 17. The Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) said in the House of Representatives today that the Queen had agreed to Lord Dunrossil’s nomination as Governor-General of Australia before Lord Dunrossil had been approached.

Mr Menzies said “it is not my practice to go around asking people whether they would be willing to have their names considered.”

He was replying to Mr E. Ward (Labour, New South Wales) who asked whether Mr Menzies had personally secured Lord Dunrossil’s consent before submitting his name to the Queen.

Replying to an Opposition member who shouted: “Didn’t he ask you about the salary?” Mr Menzies said "he did not ask me anything.”
