BANNER BETWEEN SCHOOL SPIRES
Unplanned Publicity For Candidate
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 16. If Invercargill’s present wet weather continues to the end of ,the week a candidate for the City Council, Mr L. V. Blaikie, will have some unplanned publicity to further his cause at the polls on Saturday.
When he arrived at the Southland Boys’ High School, where he is a master, this morning, Mr Blaikie was greeted by a large banner bearing the words “Vote Blaikie” in big black letters, tied between the spires at the top of the building. The spires rise from a steeplysloping slate roof and are almost inaccessible. The only ladder in town long enough to reach the spot belongs to the fire brigade, but the brigade will not undertake the job of hauling down the banner in wet Weather. So until the sun shines again it will remain above the school.
The perpetrators of the deed are not known, but Mr Blaikie has a suspicion that they may be university student?, back in Invercargill for their annual vacations.
