"Dorie" Brown To Retire
rpHE announcement by Miss Doreen Brown that after 20 years’ service she will relinquish the position of secretary to the Canterbury Swimming/ Centre came as a surprise at this week's meeting of the management committee. For more than 40 years “Dorie” Brown has been so much
i part of swimming in Canterury that her outstanding ability n the secretarial position will be ireatly missed. Miss Brown has often had oponents in her moves to improve he sport in the province, but ali >f them would be the first to idmit she is a most remarkable voman. Her debating skill is irilliant, and the fact that imiresses is that she is very seldom vrong. If she is, she is the flrsi o admit it. Miss Brown’s record of service o swimming has never been exelled in this country and few an equal it. Since 1917, she has
devoted her time to the administration of the sport from club and provincial levbl to the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. And if a cause has the support of “Dorie” Brown, then it is as good as approved. /
She is a life member of the Canterbury centre and the New Zealand Association, as well as the Christchurch Ladies’ Swimming Club. She holds all the awards of the Royal Life Saving Society, and has been secretary of the Canterbury branch for over 20 years.
It is to be hoped that Miss Brown will continue to serve the sport in Canterbury for many years yet. No-one will begrudge her rest from secretarial duties after thoroughly devoted service for so many years.
