FARMING STUDY SCHOLARSHIP

Mr W. R. Fleming Selected Mr W. R. Fleming, of the Ladbrooks Club, has been awarded the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s Scholarship for 1960. He was selected from among seven finalists from the Christchurch, Timaru, North Canterbury and Waimate districts. The scholarship is presented annually by the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company to the Canterbury Council to enable a Young Farmers’ Club member to study at Lincoln College for one year. It is available for study in either the first year of the agricultural diploma course or fhe eight months inteiisive course Mr Fleming is aged 19. He was educated at the Duvauchelles Bay School from 1945-46 and the Barrys Bay School from 19461952. He attended the Akaroa District High School from 1953 until 1954, Christchurch Boys’ High School from 1955 until 1956 Rangiora District High School in 1957.

He is employed by Mr J. W. Overton, of Halswell, on a 230acre property running a highproducing Friesian town supply dairy herd of over 100 cows. Mr Fleming has been a member of the Ladbrooks Young Farmers’ Club since 1958 and is the secretary of the club this year. During 1960 he will take the Intensive eight months course at Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln.
