ATHENS MARATHON

Doctor Reluctant To Let Julian Run (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. November 12. J. F. Julian, the Auckland runner who came second in the commemorative marathon at Athens last month, was decreed unfit to compete by a Gr-eV doctor shortly beforehand. It was only reluctantly that the doctor gave him permission to run. Julian and W. D. Baillie, who also competed in the marathon, arrived home today. The day before the race of 26 miles and 385 yards, the doctor said Julian’s bloodcount was too high to compete in the race safely. Just 10 minutes before the marathon began. Julian's bloodcount was even higher. Permission to compete was given, but only on the condition he did not go too hard.
