TALL GIRLS’ CLUB
More Members Wanted If the tall girls of Canterbury would unite, manufacturers might consider making summer clothes which they could buy off the peg. Already in Christchurch the Tall Girls’ Club has enlisted the aid of one shoe retailer who is specialising in catering for the larger sizes, and has considerable stocks. More could be done with a larger membership, and anyone interested is asked to get in touch with Mrs R. Bowron, secretary of the club, at 37 St. Martins road, Christchurch. Qualification for membership is a height of sft 7in. There are 52 members in the club at the moment, and the tallest is 6ft lin. The largest feet.in the club are size 13.
Members live as far away as Greymouth, Otira, and Ashburton. The club realises the difficulties experienced by country members, and is willing to do some shopping for them. Results in Auckland, where the Tall Girls’ Club is very strong, and in Wellington, where there are 150 members, have been encouraging. Manufacturers have agreed to make specially long bathing suits. The Christchurch Tall Girls’ Club has just completed its first year.. Each month a newsletter has been sent to members, giving information about clothing and footwear, and meetings have been held on the second Wednesday of each month.
The following officers were elected at the annual meeting:— President, Miss M. Biggs; secretary, Mrs R. Bowron; treasurer, Miss J. Turnbull; committee Mrs J. K. Davidson, Misses P. Tanner and N. James; publicity officer. Miss S. G. Oliver.
