Australia’s Trade Balance Improves In October
(N.Z. Press Association-Copyright)
CANBERRA, November 6. Australia recorded a visible trade surplus of £ 10.3 m in October, as a result of a sharp rise in export earnings for the month of £ 84.9 m. This more than offset an imports bill of £ 74.6 m which showed an increase from the £64.3m in September. Visible exports in September were £ 69.5 m. The increase in October is attributed largely to exports of wool which had sold at higher prices this selling season. The October figures, announced today, brought the visible trade surplus for the first four months of this financial year to £4.4m, compared with a deficit of £27.9m
for the same period last year. For the four months the total export cheque was £ 285.6 m, compared with £240.9m for the same period last year. Imports totalled £281.2m compared with £268.8m last year.
