£21,000 COLLEGE WING
Opening At Auckland Baptist College “The Press’ Special Service AUCKLAND, October 12. A new £21,000 wing will be opened at the Baptist college during this year’s assembly of the Baptist Union in Auckland, which will open on October 29. The wing has been paid for out of funds raised solely through Bapist campaigns and will be opened on the first day of the assembly proper. The assembly, which will be attended by 350 delegates from New Zealand and missionary members, will be preceded by executive meetings beginning on October 26. The assembly will end on November 4. The presidential address will be given by the Rev. A. L. Silcock, from the Colombo Street Baptist Church, Christchurch. Items to be discussed include a budget of £50,000 for Baptist work in the coming year and the outstanding success of the “all age Sunday schools” introduced by the Baptists a year ago. There will also be a report on the work of the Baptist Dominion evangelist, the Rev. F. H. Carter, who has been operating for a year.
Other time will be devoted to discussions of missionary work in India and Pakistan and the possibility of new fields; the replacement of clergy and the reception of new candidates in the mission field.
The principal speaker on the assembly’s college evening will be the Rev. L. A. North, secretary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand. The guest speaker on the last day of the assembly will be the Rev. Roland Hart, of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, Christchurch.
