Aniseed Creek Caves
Sir, —When travelling down from Blenheim to Christchurch last Wednesday I noticed the picturesque caves about half a mile north of the Aniseed creek had been filled in with rubble and the two magnificent karaka trees growing in front of the caves had been ruthlessly cut down. It would be interesting to know who is responsible for this outrage. It would also be interesting to know what the scenic board thinks of this, that is if it thinks at all. If the caves had to be blocked up, a strong wall could have been built in front of the caves and the karaka trees should have been left alone. I hope that some other lover of the beautiful Kaikoura coast takes this matter up. What was once a beauty spot is now an eyesore. —Yours, etc., TOURIST. .September 29, 1959. [The Hundalee Scenic Board had no comment to make on this letter.]
