U.S. DEFENCE SECRETARY
McElroy To Arrive Today
The United States Secretary of Defence (Mr Neil H. McElroy) is expected to arrive at Christchurch Airport today to inspect the United States Antarctic operation advance headquarters at Harewood
Mr McElroy, .who will be accompanied by his wife, will have with him the United States Air Force Chief of Staff (General Thomas D. White), the Deputy-Assistant-Secretary of Defence (Mr Haydn Williams), and the Defence Secretary’s military assistant (Brigadier-General Carey A Randall). The Minister of Defence (Mr Connolly), the United States Ambassador to New Zealand (Mr Francis H. Russell), the Chief of the New Zealand General Staff (Major-General C. E. Weir), and the Military Attache to the United States Embassy in Wellington (Colonel Mabry G. Miller) will be among the party to meet Mr McElroy when his United States Air Force DC-6 arrives at the airport. Mr McElroy will spend an hour inspecting the American headquarters and is to have dinner with the Mayor of Chritschurch (Mr Manning) in his hotel this evening. He is to *fly to Wellington tomorrow where he will have discussions with the Prime Minister (Mr Nash), Cabinet Ministers and the Chiefs of Staff. A Government luncheon has been arranged in his honour. Mi McElroy is to leave New Zealand on Friday from Whenuapai.
