ESCAPERS APPEAR IN COURT
Remand Granted To Christchurch (from Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, October 12. Handcuffed together, the two men who escaped from the Paparua Prison last Thursday night, and who were arrested in South Westland on Sunday afternoon, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth this morning, charged with escaping from lawful custody. The pair, Harry Matthew Peri, aged 22, and Clifford John Piharna, aged 22, entered the dock wearing illfitting clothing. Senior-Sergeant T. Bryce asked for a remand to Christchurch, and this was granted by Mr R. J. Truman, Justice of the Peace, who was on the Bench. The accused raised no objection to the remand. They will appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Christchurch next Monday.
They left Greymouth under guard by this morning’s rail-car.
