Soviet Research In Arctic

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MOSCOW, October 11.

A Soviet expedition has set up automatic radio equipment on drifting ice floes in the Arctic Ocean, Tass reported today.

Radio beacons were transmitting information on the direction and speed of drifting ice and the data was being analysed at polar observatories, Tass quoted the leader of the expedition, Mr V Moroz, as saying. An ice-breaker, an ice reconnaissance aircraft and a helicopter were used to set up the beacons in difficult weather conditions. Dozens of automatic radio sets were now operating in the Arctic.
