Parking Area To Be Opened

The Tuam street property of P. and D. Duncan, Ltd., which has been bought by the City Council for off-street parking, will be thrown open to moforists for free parking while a tender for clearing of the site is negotiated. Replying to Cr. P. J. Skellerup last evening, Cr. H. P. Smith, chairman of the finance committee, said negotiations were continuing for the clearing of the site and making it ready for controlled parking. Meanwhile, it was a pity to see the vacant area not being used, he said, and it would be opened so that motorists could use the space. Asked by Cr. M. A. Connelly. M.P., about any responsibility for accidents and whether some supervision would be necessary. Cr. Smith said the council’s insurance would undoubtedly cover any possibility, and there was no need for supervision.
