Wrestling Fourth Round Reached In National Championships

(New Zealand Press Association)

NAPIER. October 2. Wrestlers at the national championships looked set for a marathon session tonight as tournament organisers decided to press on and comolete the third round and start the fourth. All divisions were still undecided, but some competitors like the middle-weight. J. Monaghan (Southland) and the brilliant E. Thomas (Wellington) appeared certainties after all their opponents had been seen in action.

T Milat, the biggest and most powerful heavy-weight in the top division this year, wrestled for the first time tonight, after drawing the bye in the first round, and he looked almost certain to win the title for which he was runner-up in 1958. Hansen (Auckland), Hansen was awarded an upset decision by one of the three judges supported by one member of the adjudication ooard But after an inspection of the judges’ cards it was found a mistake had been made, and the decision was changed to a draw. Two members of the New Zealand team which recently' toured Australia P. Moore (Canterbury) and E Matthews (Wellington) met in the third round of the bantamweight.
