Egypt Frees Swinburn

James Swinburn, the British businessman sentenced by Egypt to five years’ imprisonment in 1956 for alleged spying, was freed from prison yesterday. He was released under an amnesty granted to prisoners who have completed half their sentences. The amnesty did not apply to Maltese-born James Zarb, who was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment at the same time as Swinburn.
As he walked out of the prison gate carrying a small suitcase and wearing a blue suit, Mr Swinburn said: “I hope to go home now.” He is expected to fly home to London this afternoon or tonight.
U.S. Businessman.— The president of the New York Stock Exchange, Mr G. K. Funston, arrived in Sydney today to survey Australian prosperity and potential. The guest of the Australian Stock Exchanges,, he will also visit New Zealand early next month.—Sydney, Sept. 21.
