SCOUTS TO HIKE 105 MILES

Special Test For Badge

A 105-mile hike by eight members of a Northdown, Timaru. Rover Scout crew will begin on September 26. After leaving from Christchurch on Saturday, September 26, the party expects to be in Timaru about 6 p.m. on September 28. It will mean covering the 105 miles in about six hours short of three days. The reason the boys are undertaking the long tramp is to receive the scout’s Venturer badge which requires hikes of up to 100 miles to qualify for it. The distance has been covered before, but in reverse. In 1911 the Northdown scouts hiked from I Timaru to Christchurch on a [journey that lasted a week.
