SPRING PARTY

Christchurch Red Cross Sub-Centre Lady Wigram Hall was decorated with white bowls of forsythia, daffodils, camellias and peach blossom ’ for the spring party of the Christchurch subcentre of the Red- Cross yesterday afternoon. Mrs Douglas Anderson, president of the centre, welcomed members and spoke of the value of monetary . contributions to the society. Miss M. Enright was welcomed back to the sub-centre.

Mrs R. I. Brake, president of the North Canterbury centre of the Red Cross, spoke on some aspects of the work of the Red Cross at home and overseas. “With the Red Cross, every year is refugee year,” she said. The Red Cross had decided to send £lOOO to Algeria for relief work

this year. Many parcels were to be sent to New Zealand soldiers in Malaya. The Red Cross had also done wonderful work for relief in Niue Island, she reported. A programme, organised by Mrs C. E. Wren, included songs by Mrs T. H. Carr, accompanied by Mrs H. Wilson, recitations by Mrs Wren, piano solos by Mrs H Wilson and a sketch by Mrs Wren and Mrs F. Berryman.
