SCOTCH EMBLEM NOT STARTING
Soft Track Needed Scotch Emblem will not run in the Spring Hurdles at Wingatui tomorrow. This Riccarton jumper would have made the trip only if a soft or easy track had been certain. Scotch Emblem has done his latest racing on hard tracks, and his form has not matched his best as a winter performer. Scotch Emblem’s usual rider, K. Quayle, will now ride Saltash. R. L. Browning will ride Saltash's [stablemate Balance, and G. D. Lee will ride the Invercargill-trained Coinalot. The Riccarton jockey P. J. Kempton will ride either Tutton or Natlin in the McLean Stakes at Wingatui. Tutton and Natlin are bracketed. They are both owned by Mr C. E. Leighton and trained at Waimate by P. H. Andrews. Both shaped well in the sprint for two-year-olds at Ashburton last Saturday.
