WHITE FARMER ON TRIAL

Alleged Assault On African (N.Z Press Association— Copyright) SPRINGS (Transvaal), Sept 14 An African farm labourer told a Springs magistrate today a white farmer thrashed him with a stick while he lay chained and naked over a petrol drum, American Associated Press reported. The farmer, George Heinrich Pistorius, aged 62, and two African farm hands, were accused of assaulting Alfred Maseko with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. Maseko said that after his drum thrashing the farmer strung him up on a barn beam and beat him with a hosepipe. He lost consciousness. The African said he had to spend a month in hospital recovering from the beatings. The district surgeon (Dr. O. K. Bowden) said he examined Maseko and found injuries “too numerous to count or describe.” The hearing was adjourned until tomorrow. »
