TINWALD STOCK MARKET

A good supply of fat sheep was offered at the Tinwald stock market on Tuesday, prices being surprisingly firm for most of the sale.

Competition from the south helped to maintain the prices for good heavy-weight ewes and wethers Practically a total clearance was made at auction.

The range of prices was:— Shorn Sheep.—Prime hoggets, 48s Id to 54s Id (one outstanding pen at 61s Id); medium, 43s Id to 47s Id: light. 36s Id to 42s Id. Two-tooth Shorn Wethers.—Prime, 52s Id to 57s Id; medium, 48s Id to 51s Id; light, 43s Id to 47s Id. Four-tooth Shorn Wethers.—Prime, 44s Id to 49s Id; medium, 40s Id to 43s Id; light. 36s Id to 39s Id. Woolly Hoggets.—Prime, 54s Id to 59s Id; medium, 40s Id to 43s Id; light. 36s Id to 39s Id. Two-tooth Woolley Wethers.— Prime, 65s Id to 71s Id; medium, 60s Id to 64s Id; light, 54s Id to 59s Id. Four-tooth Woolley Wethers.— Prime, 60s Id to 65s Id; medium, 54s Id to 59s Id; light. 49s Id to 53s Id. Woolley Ewes.—Prime, 52s Id to 57s Id; medium, 48s Id to 51s Id; light. 42s Id to 47s Id. Shorn Ewes.—Prime, 32s Id to 37s Id; medium. 27s Id to 31s Id; light. 18s Id to 26s Id. The stoYe sheep yarding was again a small one. Wether hoggets appeared to be firmer and the ewe hoggets showed no rise on last week’s poor sale. Best woolley wether hoggets made from 43s to 49s Id and medium sorts. 38s to 425. Culls were down to 265.

Good shorn wether hoggets sold well but inferior sorts met a weak inquiry. Prime shorn wether hoggets made from 30s to 40s, and mediums from 25s to 295. Culls were down to 14s.

Only six pens constituted the ewe hogget entry. The best of the Romneys made from 50s to 59s 6d. Two pens of Corriedales made from 43s Id to 455.
