FLOCK OF BIRDIES

A stroke match at Russley last week-end was won with a score of 65, eight better than the standard scratch score. The player who left the field so well behind was E. S. F. Holland, who, from a handicap of seven, was round in 72 off the stick.

Holland had one really superlative patch in his fine round. He sank a good putt for a birdie at the long ninth, and at the tenth holed one of 25 feet from thei edge St the green for another birdie. At the eleventh his second left him a putt of 15 feet across a steeply sloping green, but he judged the borrow beautifully and had another birdie. He scored yet another birdie at the twelfth, and his fifth in succession at the long thirteenth. At the fourteenth he had a putt of seven feet for a sixth birdie in a row, but this time he failed narrowly.
