Lawn Tennis GERRARD’S PLANS FOR FUTURE
Scholarship Offer Declined (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 16. L. A. Gerrard, the New Zealand Davis Cup player, arrived home today from his third overseas tour with the belief that his form and that of his cup team partners, M. A. Otway and B. E. Woolf, had improved considerably and that he definitely not accept the offer of a scholarship at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
Gerrard was offered the scholarship while he was touring overseas, but he said today that his immediate future plans were to play in New Zealand tournaments this summer and try to make another overseas tour next year. He had been very pleased with his form overseas, said Gerrard, and felt that he was now slightly below the top level. “With a bit more hard work I might be able to make the top grade,’* he said. “I’m prepared to work hard so, who knows, I might get there.” TE WHAKA CLUB Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Te Whaka Tennis Club were:— Patron, Mr R.
