INJURY TO AIR PASSENGER

Flight To N.Z. To Save Eye

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 16.

An Australian woman, Miss Edna May Kerr, was operated on at the Auckland Hospital tonight after flying from Nandi to Whenuapai this afternoon with a sliver of glass embedded in an eye. * 7 ‘

The operation was successful, and Miss Kerr, who lives about 21 miles north of Melbourne, will fly to Australia either tomorrow or on Friday. Miss Kerr was on board a Canadian Pacific Airlines aircraft on her way back from a visit to London. When the aircraft landed at Nandi a glass soda siphon hit the floor and shattered, sending a sliver of glass into her eye.

A passenger on the same aircraft, Dr. N. D. McCreath, of Winnipeg, kept Miss Kerr’s eye protected, and tried to ease the pain.

A radio message was sent to Auckland from the aircraft, and an ophthalmic surgeon met the aircraft when it landed at 4.35 p.m. He took Miss Kerr to the Auckland Hospital and operated on her about 8 p.m. The operation took about 45 minutes. The surgeon said tonight that Miss Kerr would not lose her eyesight.
