Family Benefit Mortgage
Sir, —The fact that money can be borrowed on an unborn child —advanced by the State to a young married couple to build a home —has been established. Two children, one five, the other younger, and a doctor’s certificate to prove another arriving formed the basis of the advance to build. The doctor's certificate did not anticipate the actual result, which proved to be twins, which warranted an additional bonus. The father considers New Zealand to be the best country in the world. Apparently it is desperately anxious to increase the population when a mortgage can be obtained by parents on children before they see daylight. The Labour Party’s gamble with the country’s finances to gain office may lead to complex results.—Yours, etc., HIRAM HUNTER. September 11, 1959.
