LIVERPOOL MINE DISPUTE
•J Work Resumed Last Evening (New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH, September 15. Work resumed at the Liverpool State mine with the dog-watch tonight. The mine was idle yesterday, because of a dispute. The secretary of the Runanga State Miners’ Union, Mr N. H-’ Leech, said tonight that the Liverpool manager, Mr D. Buist, had informed an executive member of the union that he “would' make history” by not allowing the union to hold a short meeting to discuss the dispute. “The Liverpool executive considered that it would be contrary to its policy to submit to such an autocratic action, which would have the effect of abrogating this fundamental right,” said Mr Leech.
“Consequently, a meeting was held at Rewanui this morning, and simultaneously the manager caused the whistle to be blown, indicating that the mine would be idle for the day,” concluded the union statement.
