Wins For Williamson And Melhopt

Four of this year's representative indoor bowling team met yesterday in the finals of the Canterbury Indoor Bowling Association's singles and champion of champion singles titles.

In the champion of champions final. A. Williamson beat G. N. Taylor, 14-11, a repetition of the last meeting of these two in this final two years ago. In the Canterbury singles championship final, R. Melhopt beat Mrs B. Penney, 20-16 In the final between Williamson and Tavlor, Williamson gained two on the first head with a running shot which carried the kitty to the back edge of the mat. With the second head declared dead, he scored another two with a drive in the third Taylor, finding his touch, scored two at the next hea’d. adding two more on a burnt fifth head. Williamson, surprisingly, burnt the sixth head, giving Taylor a 6-4 lead, but gained one on the seventh with a delicate drawing shot. Taylor gained the shot in the eighth, but Williamson with a one and a two took an 8-7 lead at the tenth. Taylor tied the game In the next head, and with a two on the twelfth took the lead again. Williamson drove brilliantly for one in the thirteenth, but Taylor, making an almost impossible drawround his opponent's shots, maintained his lead Gaining one on the fifteenth head, Williamson took the lead with two on the sixteenth and In the two final heads ensured his win by holding the shot each time.
